Douk Douk Pocket Knife

Douk Douk Pocket Knife

ARCHIVE #51

The Douk Douk knife dates back to 1929, when Gaspard Cognet decided to target the Melanesian market with a new folding knife. Gaspard decided to emboss each handle with an image of the ‘Duk-Duk’, an important figure in the Melanesian culture, often known as the god of chaos. The Melanesian market didn’t latch on to the knives, and so stocks were redirected to the French colonies of North Africa where it was loved for its low price and quality blade. Fast forward to the 1960s, and the knife builds up a reputation in France, where its strong, robust design continues to be appreciated to this day.
